Kathleen Freeman, 89, Bartlesville, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 15, 2018. She passed away peacefully in her home. Kathleen Jo Eichhorn was born to parents, Fred and Mildred (Stewart) Eichhorn, at their home outside Oswego, Kansas, on February 23, l929. She married Jerry Freeman on June 22nd, l952, in Parsons, Kansas, and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. The couple raised one daughter, Debra Freeman, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Freeman was a graduate of Pittsburg State University, taught briefly in Oswego, Kansas, and Parson, Kansas, and then 28 years in Bartlesville where she was named Oak Park Teacher of the Year in 1987-88 and was inducted into the Bartlesville Public School Foundation Hall of Fame in 2016. She retired from teaching in 1990 but stayed in contact with many of her students throughout their lives. She was a gifted teacher who loved "her" kids and they loved her back. She instilled a lifelong love of learning and, especially, reading and was an avid reader herself. She was an artist who created and collected beautiful works of art.
Mrs. Freeman was an active long standing member in several organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution; Alpha Delta Kappa, a teachers sorority; Tuesday Club; and the United Methodist Women. She and her husband have been members of the Bartlesville First Church for over 61 years.
Kathleen Freeman is survived by her husband, Jerry, her daughter, Deb, and a grandson, Colin of Broken Arrow, several cousins, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and a total of 11 nieces and nephews who considered her the heart of the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Darlene Eichhorn Palmer and Janice Eichhorn Read James, a brother, Boyd Eichhorn, and one nephew, B.E. Eichhorn.
There will be a memorial service Wednesday, March 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at Bartlesville First Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the First Church of Bartlesville in her name.
