On August 12, 2018, Dennis Earlgene Stanberry went to be with the Lord at the age of 87 surrounded by his family. Dennis was born on November 1, 1930 to James William and Clara Stanberry in Bokoshe, OK. At a young age, his family moved to Dewey, OK where he graduated from Dewey High School in 1948. He married his sweetheart, Cleo May Benefiel, on December 26, 1949. They were blessed with five children David, Larry, Susan, Denise, and Kenneth. Dennis worked as a supervisor and manager at Reda Pump for 42 years. He was an active member of Rose Hill Community Baptist Church in Dewey, OK. He loved serving others, going to garage sales, working in his shop, watching OU football, and spending time with his family. Dennis is survived by his wife and love of 68 years, Cleo, brother James “Bugs” Stanberry, children Susan and husband Paul Willis, Denise and husband Jim Bohnsack, and Kenneth and wife Grace Stanberry as well as nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dennis was preceded in death by parents, siblings Clay Stanberry, Ray Stanberry, Oleta Brooks, Juanita Bright, and twin sister Doris Branch, and sons David and Larry.
Dennis will be remembered by his grandchildren as a persevering, selfless, strong and yet gentle man who loved to kid around, could build or fix just about anything, and would drop everything to help his family and neighbors. He was a man who reminded his grandchildren to be as good as he was so that they had a little wiggle room, would always show them the details, no matter how small, who taught them to be tough but that it was okay to cry, who always let them know that they were loved, and who was always holding Grandma’s hand.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-8. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rose Hill Community Baptist Church, 12950 N 4000 Rd, Dewey, OK 74029.
Dennis’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Wednesday, August 15, from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, at the Rose Hill Community Baptist Church, with Pastor Orville Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
