David was born the son of William E. and Evelyn Marie (Shafer) Miller on May 13, 1958, in Bartlesville. He was raised in Dewey through the 5th grade. From 6th grade on, he attended Copan schools where he started going by his middle name David, graduating in 1976. During his school years he played sports, enjoying baseball and football the most.
One night at a local dance he met Marie Watkins - they hit it off and quickly became an item, uniting in marriage on May 28, 1977. They made their home on family land in Copan surrounded by family. David had started work at Jane Phillips Hospital in 1975 and over the years participated in building the hospital into what it now is. After 35 years in maintenance he became a jack of all trades and valued the many lasting friendships formed along the way.
When David retired in 2010 due to his health, Marie also retired from cooking. David loved to cook and used his culinary skills to prepare the Wednesday night meal at church for many years. Together they loved going to church, camping and all activities their grandkids were involved in. David loved the outdoors - he taught his kids everything to know about hunting and fishing and spent many memorable days and nights in the woods and at the lake. At one point he took up race car driving but after winning the rollover trophy one night which came with a broken arm he gave it up at Marie’s urging. David loved the Lord and served on the church board, current search committee for the new pastor and helped with maintenance and mowing of the church. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
David is survived by his loving wife Marie of the home; two children Amanda Bearden and Bo of Copan, and Bryan Miller and Julie of Dewey; aunt Betty Shafer of Copan; sister Barbara Forbes and Jeff of Copan; eight grandchildren, Lonny Bearden and Dawn, Brittany Bearden, Ashley Bearden, Caleb Miller, Aspen Wright, Wyatt Wright, Tasten Wright and Chase Miller; and seven great grandchildren, Maverick, Jackson, Bayleigh, Aurora, Bella, Rae and Leon. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bill Miller.
